Mermaid Melody: Pichi Pichi Pitch is an anime and manga written by Michiko Yokote. The original illustrations from the manga were drawn by Pink Hanamori. It follows a young mermaid named Lucia Nanami leave her kingdom and live among humans to search for the pearl that she gave to a young boy who she saved from drowning as a child. She lives at the Pearl Piari Hotel, managed by Nikora, who is a mermaid and poses as her big sister in the human world. She is accompanied by her guardian Hippo, a penguin who turns out to be the legendary Hippocampus. Lucia meets fellow mermaids Hanon Hosho and Rina Toin in the human world as well, and they help her fight Gaito and his minions. The mermaids use the power of song to defeat their enemies, hence the name Mermaid Melody.

I first watched Mermaid Melody when I was 16 years old and fell in love with it. I've always loved magical girl shows, mermaids, and the entire vibe of the show is just sooo cute and I'm obsessed. I can't decide if Lucia or Hanon is my favorite, I think they're both so cute. I love Hanon's star hair clips and I love Lucia's swirly fringe in her mermaid form.
